Draw the Word

Sometimes your pencil makes your eyes slow down.

Drawing isn't decoration added after Bible study. In Draw the Word, drawing becomes a way of observing.

A child trying to illustrate a scene suddenly has questions:

Who was there? What happened first? What objects are mentioned? What does this image mean? Did the Bible actually say that?

That's study.

For the Child

You do not have to be an artist.

Stick people count. Shapes count. Scribbles with labels count.

The challenge is not to make the prettiest picture.

It's to make a picture that shows you looked at the Bible.

For the Grown-Up

Don't fix the child's artwork. Instead ask:

“Show me which part you found in Scripture.”

Children may add imaginative details. That's okay as long as they learn to distinguish:

“The Bible told me this.”
from
“I imagined this part.”
